"FIN-ADDICT" Takes Third, Lady Angler Honors in the 2009 Edisto Governor's Cup Billfishing Tournament

Team "FIN-ADDICT" caught a blue marlin on Friday, May 15th and held on through Saturday to take third place overall in this year's Edisto Governor's Cup Tournament. Fishing was tough both days as we fought our way through tons and tons of dolphin to eventually catch and release an estimated 400 lb. blue marlin. It didn't seem to matter where we fished, in what temperature or depth, from cold to hot to shallow to deep, the dolphin were there. Even lure size didn't make any difference as the mahi were hitting everything from medium ballyhoo and large Spanish mackerel on circle hooks to large Black Bart lures trolled with J hooks.

Our team consisted of Capt. Danny Massalon (owner/angler), Capt. Jim Bost (driver), Capt. Brian Bell (angler), Capt. William Tetterton (angler) and Tara Asbill (lady angler). Neither day of fishing was dull, though frustrating, as there was non-stop action with 2 to 5 dolphin consistantly being hooked at a time. Tara hooked the marlin at 1:12 pm Friday on 50 lb. tackle and expertly fought it for forty minutes before it was brought to the boat, the hook removed and the fish released healthy to fight another day. The fish earned her Lady Angler honors for the tournament. She also won Lady Angler honors in the "Tournament Within A Tournament" category.

The overall tournament winners were:

1st Place: "MISS MAGNOLIA" from Hilton Head with two blue marlin releases.
2nd Place: "BLUE SKY" from Georgetown with one blue marlin release.
3rd Place: "FIN-ADDICT" from Edisto with one blue marlin release.

We'll be heading to Georgetown May 27 through 30 for the 42nd annual Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament. See you there!
